At the global level, the treatment of wastewater is one of the key aspects of protecting water resources. It presents a dual public health and environmental protection challenge for emerging and developed countries. Most people don’t know a running toilet can cost you hundreds of dollars when things like cracked or clogged pipes add wasted water to your bill. Typically, running water in your toilet wastes about 25 times more water than a shower leak and about 4 times as much water than a simple faucet leak.
So here are two toilets designed to save water and money!
Composting Toilet
A composting toilet is self-contained, urine diverting and the water-less operation allows for ease of use for many applications and uses the natural processes of decomposition and evaporation to recycle human waste. Waste entering the toilets is over 90% water, which is evaporated and carried back to the atmosphere through the vent system. The small amount of remaining solid material is converted to useful fertilizing soil by natural decomposition. This natural process, essentially the same as in your garden composter, is enhanced in commercial composting toilets by manipulating the environment in the composting chamber. The correct balance between oxygen, moisture, heat and organic material is needed to ensure a rich environment for the aerobic bacteria that transform the waste into fertilizing soil. This ensures odor-free operation and complete decomposition of waste.
When human waste is properly composted, the end product does not contain any pathogens or viruses (these are destroyed by bacterial breakdown). This nutrient-rich fertilizer also known as humanure can then be used on plants or around the base of trees, as part of the natural cycling of nutrients, reducing your need for commercial fertilizers and preserving local water quality. Composting toilets are compact making it a perfect fit for your home, cabin, tiny house, RV, workshop, boat and survival application. I personally use a composting toilet in my RV that I live in full-time and highly recommend the Nature’s Head brand! You can learn more or purchase one below.

Sink Twice
Sink Twice is a sink that connects to the back of your toilet. You will wash your hands with the clean water, leaving the soapy water to clean your toilet when flushed! Sink Twice is a major water saver, leak detector and a space saver. This one of a kind “fill cycle diversion” faucet is a significant leap in water efficiency that improves the efficiency of toilets. The 800 ton injection machine produces an incredibly durable and cost effective sink basin that has plenty of room on the flat soap holder for soap containers and the drain is specifically designed to prevent splashes.
