Essential oils are the aromatic compounds found on plants within the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers or other parts of the plant.
When you smell the scent of peppermint on your hand after touching the leaves, or experience the zesty scent of an orange when you peel it, you are experiencing the essential oil of that plant.
Traditionally, these oils have been used in food prep, beauty regiments, and health-care routines. They are recently making a resurgence as people lose faith in the industrial medical complex and centralized healthcare systems.
Their historical uses date to the primitive man, and are referred to many times in ancient texts such as the Bible. We have all heard the tale of baby Jesus receiving Frankincense and Myrrh from the Three Wise Men. We have heard about essential oils every Christmas our entire lives!

How Essential Oils Work
These small organic molecules move through the air quickly in order to directly interact with your olfactory senses. This is why you can smell them from across the room when someone opens a bottle.
The delicate ratio of aromatic constituents found in any given essential oil are what make it unique and give it specific benefits.
The type of compounds found in each oil will determine the benefits offered by the plant to your mind, emotions and body. Over 3,000 various compounds have been identified in essential oils already, and scientists are studying them every day.
Each oil will affect our body differently when used aromatically, topically or internally. You can read more about safe oil usage here.
Truly Therapeutic Essential Oils
Its really interesting to note that the chemical composition of a pure drop of essential oil can vary greatly depending on where it was grown geographically, the time of day it was harvested, the season, how it was distilled, the year, climate and weather.
This means that a drop of peppermint oil grown in one region using certain distillation and harvesting practices can vary differently from a drop of peppermint oil grown in another region using different distillation and harvesting practices.
This means it is important to pay particular attention to where you are sourcing your essential oils. “Pure Essential Oil” labels are great, but if the plants were grown in a greenhouse they will lack specific qualities found in plants grown in their indigenous region/climate.
