Crochet Water Bottle Holder Pattern

I crocheted up a storm for selling my fiber arts at a conference in February called Anarchapulco. This year featured a marketplace for agorists to come and sell their wares. For those who don’t know what agorism is, it’s building a lifestyle without the interference of the state that often involves producing crafts or selling services in the counter culture. I decided to take some crochet water bottle holders to trade.

I found some images with water bottle holders on Pinterest. For example:

Being someone who loathes video tutorials, I was forced to develop a crochet water bottle pattern of my own. They are perfect for keeping yourself hydrated in hot places like Acapulco without having to hold on to your bottle all the time. I also like that this holds not only small water bottles but larger ones as well, so it’s more versatile than the average holder.

It takes a few hours to stitch up. The most time-consuming part is the strap but it is well worth the trouble. Perfect for a beginner!

Materials:

Worsted weight yarn

Size 4mm crochet hook

Stitches Used:

Chain

Double Crochet

Triple Crochet

Slip Stitch

Instructions:

Chain 5, slip stitch into the first chain to form a circle.

Chain 2, double crochet 12 stitches into the circle, slip stitch into the chain for the first round.

Chain 2, put 2 double crochet into each stitch to get a total of 24 stitches.

Chain 2, put one double crochet in first stitch, 2 in the second. Repeat all the way around.

Chain 2, put one stitch in each, repeat for 2 rows.

Chain 3, skip a stitch, double crochet in next after skipped stitch, chain 2. Repeat all the way around for a row of even-sized squares. When you reach the end of the row, slip stitch into the chain.

Chain 4, triple crochet into where the first double crochet is. Chain one, treble crochet into the next double crochet (skipping the chain stitches). Continue until the round is done, slip stitch to end the round. Repeat this 8 times.

Chain 2, double crochet 2 stitches in each chain space, slip stitch into the chain at the end.

Chain 2, double crochet one stitch in every stitch around, then slip stitch into the chain at the end.

Slip stitch four stitches along the top edge without tying off. This provides the base for the strap.

Single crochet one stitch into each of the 4 stitches, chain one, turn over and repeat. Do this to make the strap as long as you would like.

When you have your strap, use 4 slip stitches to stitch the other end of the strap to the opposite side of the water bottle holder. Tie off, trim ends and it’s ready to use!
